It’s clear why Double Haven is a favored yacht cruising destination in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong, one of the most vibrant cities globally, is surrounded by approximately 1,100km of coastline featuring stunning beaches, secluded spots, a UNESCO Geopark, and numerous islands.

Day or overnight yacht charters offer guests a chance to witness a side of Hong Kong rarely seen, as well as explore various yacht styles and models to help select the perfect option before purchasing. Currently, there’s a growing interest among buyers for sailing and power catamarans, known for their spaciousness, comfort, and luxury.

Asiamarine now features three catamarans from French manufacturer Lagoon, part of the Beneteau Group, in its Hong Kong charter fleet: the Lagoon 51 and Lagoon 620 sailing yachts, along with the Lagoon Sixty 7 motoryacht.

Lagoon 51

The Lagoon 51 is ideally suited for an exhilarating charter experience. It comes equipped with various marine toys, such as a slide and an ocean pool, as well as a karaoke system for onboard entertainment. Accommodating up to 30 guests across six cabins, it’s perfect for larger groups and overnight trips.

The newest addition to Asiamarine’s Hong Kong charter fleet is the Lagoon 51.

Lagoon 620

This internationally favored model is popular for family outings in Hong Kong waters, featuring many water toys, including paddleboards, fishing equipment, an ocean pool, and a tender. It’s designed for continuous enjoyment on the water.

Lagoon Sixty 7

As the largest Lagoon catamaran available for charter, it is especially sought after by corporate groups due to its spacious deck area. The stylish interior showcases nautical colors, offering a refined atmosphere for any event.

Charter Ports of Call

When it comes to chartering in Hong Kong, a great starting point is the lively Victoria Harbour, followed by options to move northeast towards the scenic Sai Kung Country Park or south to the islands of Lamma and Lantau. Customized itineraries and experiences based on the preferences of guests and bookers are offered by Asiamarine.

Tai Long Wan

Day trips from Hong Kong include sailing towards the picturesque Tai Long Wan, translating to “Big Wave Bay.” This stunning bay features a white sandy beach popular with surfers and campers, situated on the eastern edge of Sai Kung Country Park.

An alternative destination is the beach at Long Ke Wan, noted by CNN as one of the world’s most beautiful beaches.

Accessible only by boat or hike, Millionaires Bay and Millionaire’s Beach (Nam Fung Wan) are favored snorkeling spots. Clear Water Bay beach, located on the northeastern coast of Sai Kung, is a popular choice among day charter clients.

Turtle Bay

Heading south, Sham Wan Beach on Lamma Island is renowned as the only regular nesting site for green sea turtles in the South China Sea. This scenic turtle beach is open to the public from June 1 to October 31, after the nesting season concludes.

On the southern side of Hong Kong Island, Repulse Bay Beach is arguably the city’s most popular beach. Nestled among beautiful hiking hills, it has a colonial charm and resort-like ambiance.

Close by, Deep Water Bay serves as a swimming beach in the city, visible from the mountaintop of the Ocean Park theme park, which is just a few nautical miles away in Aberdeen.

The interior of the Lagoon 51 is a wonderful space for socializing.

“For a two-day, one-night charter, my recommendation is to cruise to Sai Kung Country Park and Tai Long Wan for a day of exploration, then spend the night at Double Haven, where the waters are calm and tranquil,” suggested Laura Verbrugge, Asiamarine’s Head of Charter Team.

“One of our highly requested three-day itineraries during the cooler months from September to February includes exploring the secluded Soko Islands and Lamma Island in southern Hong Kong.”

Soko Islands

Beginning from Central Piers in Hong Kong Island or Aberdeen on the south side, the journey heads towards the Soko Islands, located in the far southwest corner of Hong Kong’s territory. What once housed a small community of farmers and fishermen mostly remains today with abandoned homes, ruins, and shrines.

The area comprises Tai A Chau, Siu A Chau, and several smaller islets, frequently visited by Chinese white dolphins and porpoises, making it a fantastic locale for spotting these unique marine creatures. Its secluded anchorage and pristine waters provide an excellent overnight spot.

On the second day, guests can either relax in the Soko Islands enjoying water toys and beaches or sail to Tai O fishing village. This quaint and popular tourist destination draws numerous visitors who come to embrace the village’s leisurely lifestyle, admire traditional stilt houses, and indulge in local delicacies. The day concludes with a walk on Lantau Island and a visit to the sandy Cheung Sha Beach.

The Lagoon 620, stocked with excitement, ensures endless fun.

On day three, the Lagoon catamaran heads toward Lamma Island, the third-largest island in Hong Kong with a small population of under 10,000 locals and expatriates. Known as one of the best places to view sunsets in Hong Kong, Lamma is characterized by a relaxed atmosphere and a hip vibe, yet still maintains the traditional lifestyle associated with fishing villages on the outskirts.

Yung Shue Wan village features numerous excellent restaurants, while the island boasts many clean beaches, with Sham Wan being the most well-known due to its sea turtles. The beach and bay are closed from June 1 to October 31 during the rare turtle nesting season.

UNESCO Geopark

Asiamarine offers various multi-day charters from March to September, including trips to Hoi Ha Wan Marine Park, celebrated for its high water quality and diverse marine life and coral communities. This itinerary typically includes a night in Double Haven, recognized as one of the most beautiful locales in Hong Kong, alongside visits to the three larger islands of Hong Kong UNESCO Geopark.

The “Maldives of Hong Kong” itinerary features renowned Tai Long Wan and Sai Wan beaches, along with Bluff Island/Basalt Island, before cruising back and stopping by the Ninepin Islands. Bluff Island is the largest among them, known for its spectacular columnar sea cliffs that contribute to the Geopark’s fame. These towering cliffs impress visitors as they paddle nearby.

Ninepin Island represents a hidden paradise of hexagonal columns in Hong Kong, comprising a series of 29 volcanic islands in the Sai Kung region. The hexagonal columns are visible from a distance, and their dramatic formations lend an exotic appeal. This uninhabited island showcases clear waters and sea caves.

Another itinerary for sightseeing at the Geopark starts in Sai Kung, reaching Jin Island after about 30 minutes. Although the rock there is somewhat fragmented, the hexagonal rock columns can be distinctly observed. The island has a name that derives from a bell-shaped sea arch on its southern end.

Sailing onward, the Lagoon soon approaches Fa Shan at High Island, where a neat arrangement of soaring hexagonal rock columns lines the shore. At the conclusion of Fa Shan is an islet named Po Pin Chau, where uniformly arranged towering rock columns on the sea cliff resemble a gigantic pipe organ. The Ung Kong Group lies to the south of Fa Shan and a 10-minute boat ride reveals the famous sculptural rock-column formations along the cliff face of Wang Chau.

So, whether you live in Hong Kong or are just visiting, consider booking a Lagoon catamaran charter excursion with Asiamarine to discover these remarkable destinations while escaping the city to relax in the diverse natural beauty of its expansive coastline and islands.
