Every era is defined by its symbols, much like each iconic fashion house has its unique flair. Louis Vuitton’s latest fine jewellery collection, Le Damier de Louis Vuitton, heralds a new chapter for the brand, as suggested by the name’s homage to its renowned Damier pattern. Originally created by the father-son team Louis and Georges Vuitton in 1888, the Damier motif has always symbolized creativity and authenticity. Even after 136 years since its inception, the essence of the Damier remains unchanged, proving its enduring legacy.

The collection, consisting of 12 pieces in yellow or white gold, was conceived by Francesca Amfitheatrof, the Artistic Director for Watches and Jewellery, and is inspired solely by the maison’s distinctive motif. Rather than emphasizing the Damier’s classic duo-tone pattern, Amfitheatrof has reimagined it by alternating unembellished squares with diamond-adorned ones. While the result is a more abstract interpretation, it showcases the collection’s elegance, contemporary appeal, and versatility, making it attractive to individuals of all genders and ages. “It’s a diamond collection that emphasizes the patterns made by the stones, not just the stones themselves. Le Damier de Louis Vuitton reflects the essence of modern jewellery,” Amfitheatrof shares.

Instead of showcasing Le Damier de Louis Vuitton with a flat or curved surface, Amfitheatrof combines angular sharpness with elegance, featuring a central line that separates the piece into two or four rows. A highlight of the collection is the Le Damier de Louis Vuitton ring, available in three different widths for different occasions. The sleek two-row ring is perfect for daily wear, while the bolder two-row or striking four-row double ring caters to those aiming to make an impression.

On the other hand, the Le Damier de Louis Vuitton bracelet offers a modern take on the classic tennis bracelet, named after a famous incident in the 1978 US Open when a player’s diamond bracelet went missing, halting the game until it was found. Like the ring, the bracelet comes in both slim and substantial two-row versions. Since the original Damier pattern epitomizes originality and authenticity, the rings and bracelets lend themselves to stacking and layering as desired. Additional pieces in the collection include earrings and a necklace in yellow gold, set to be available at Louis Vuitton stores beginning 18 October 2024.
