Recently completed a course designed to encourage more women to fish, the “Ladies, Let’s Go Fishing” Foundation is hosting four more classes in southern Florida through mid-May.

The course provides practical skills such as techniques for hook removal/release, knot tying, fly casting, spin casting, net casting, and the use of live shrimp. The full-day course held at Bass Pro Shops in Fort Myers, Florida, in late March was followed by an optional on-water excursion where students caught and released snook, snapper, redfish, and various other species.

“Women come for numerous reasons; some want to learn so they can take their kids fishing, others wish to fish on their own boats, and others want to connect with fellow women who enjoy fishing,” explained Betty Bauman, the executive director of the “Ladies, Let’s Go Fishing” Foundation.

The course is named “No Yelling School of Fishing,” taught by Bauman, Capt. Rob Fussnecker, and Capt. Jon Fetter. Topics covered included conservation, optimal fishing times, and inshore fishing. The event wrapped up with a fundraiser.

The foundation has upcoming women-exclusive courses over the next two months, including: a fish cooking class in Fort Lauderdale on April 11; a saltwater weekend seminar in South Florida from April 26-28; a surf fishing seminar in Palm Beach on May 11; and fishing/island hopping in Treasure Cay, Abaco, Bahamas, from May 16-20.

This fishing series is backed by sponsors including major partners like the Recreational Fishing and Boating Foundation, Take Me Fishing, Mercury, Scout Boats, and other organizations.
