Uttar Pradesh aims to enhance its burgeoning tourism sector by introducing catamaran boat rides in the revered cities of Ayodhya, Mathura, and Kashi. These modern vessels are designed to provide tourists with a scenic and enjoyable method to navigate the state’s historic rivers, competing with renowned water tourism destinations like Goa and Kerala.

A partnership between the Uttar Pradesh State Tourism Corporation and the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) will facilitate the delivery of two catamarans to each of the three cities. So far, Ayodhya and Kashi have received one catamaran each, with the capacity to accommodate 50 passengers. The Tourism Corporation has proposed that the forthcoming catamarans be open-air, featuring a deck, pantry, toilets, and additional amenities to guarantee a comfortable experience for tourists.

The launch of these boats is part of a larger initiative to enhance water-based tourism across the state. Recently, Prayagraj received two mini-cruise boats, each with a 30-passenger capacity, along with six motorboats that can seat six tourists each. All vessels, including two rescue boats, are anticipated to commence operations after the monsoon season.

Jaiveer Singh, Uttar Pradesh’s Tourism and Culture Minister, emphasized the state’s dedication to expanding its tourism portfolio. Over 480 million tourists visited Uttar Pradesh last year, drawn by its religious, cultural, and eco-tourism sites. Singh underscored the state’s focus on new tourism initiatives, such as rural tourism, agri-tourism, and particularly, water sports.

Mukesh Kumar Meshram, Principal Secretary of the Tourism and Culture Department, also stressed the state’s ambitious plans for water tourism. “The Uttar Pradesh State Waterways Authority was created to leverage our extensive river systems, including the Ganges, which traverses 27 districts from Bijnore to Ballia,” Meshram stated. “This project is eco-friendly, sustainable, and financially viable, optimizing our natural resources.”

With these initiatives, Uttar Pradesh is poised to emerge as a prominent destination for water-based tourism. Soon, visitors will have the opportunity to appreciate its spiritual and stunning landscapes from the water. The introduction of boat rides in Ayodhya, Mathura, and Kashi marks a significant advancement in the state’s evolving tourism landscape.
