Purchasing a new boat and officially giving it a name is a significant milestone.
The Boat Owners Association of The United States (BoatUS) has published its list of the most popular boat names for 2019, compiled from requests for boat name designs from BoatUS Boat Graphics.
According to BoatUS, the Top 10 boat names are:
1. Aquaholic: Making a comeback after a four-year absence from the Top 10, this favored boat name plays on the idea of indulging in too much time on the water.
2. Pearl: Often a shortened reference to the fictional ship from the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies, naming a boat Pearl suggests the owner knows their elegant vessel has a subtle charm.
3. Forever Young: Although boating isn’t precisely like finding the Fountain of Youth, many enthusiasts claim that boating, sailing, or fishing helps them feel youthful—a fitting name for relishing a carefree boating lifestyle.
4. Second Chance: The owner of this boat has likely experienced a redo—whether in terms of boating or a personal challenge relating to health, career, or relationships.
5. Squid Pro Quo: This name suggests the owner has a fondness for Latin or at least understands that life involves mutual exchange.
6. More Cowbell: Referencing a 2000 Saturday Night Live sketch featuring Will Ferrell and Christopher Walken, this name humorously critiques excess. Perhaps this boat leans towards the extravagant as well.
7. Pegasus: In Greek mythology, this winged horse could create springs of water by striking the ground with his hoof. This name, bridging earth and sky, is often seen on both sailboats and powerboats.
8. Feelin’ Nauti: This name offers a clever double meaning.
9. Why Knot?: Those who choose this name enjoy nautical puns and recognize the importance of diving into experiences without overthinking them.
10. High Maintenance: A fitting name for a high-performance vessel.
