Van der Valk Shipyard in the Netherlands has secured a new commission for the custom-built superyacht Jangada. Following the 25m Jangada and the 32m World Superyacht Award-nominated Jangada, this 35m project will demonstrate how the evolving desires of clients can be effortlessly accommodated when a shipyard possesses the flexibility, resources, and commitment to adapt.

Van der Valk Shipyard in the Netherlands receives a new order for a 35m custom-built Jangada superyacht.

This client, responsible for the trilogy of Jangadas, initiated his first in 2013 and has collaboratively developed all three with the shipyard and designers Nick Top and Guido de Groot.

The initial Jangada to profit from this collaborative and evolving partnership was among the earliest models with a raised pilothouse launched by Van der Valk, a design that has since served as inspiration for several notable projects for other clients.

The upcoming Jangada will feature a jet-stream pool integrated at the back of the flybridge deck.

Evolution of Wishes

The development of the Jangada yachts has closely followed the client’s life changes, including the need for increased space to accommodate a growing family and modifications to his home docking locations in the Bay of St Tropez.

Numerous explicit requests regarding personal comfort have been incorporated into this latest craft. For example, greater levels of noise and vibration attenuation are now needed, leading to the choice of a steel hull and aluminum superstructure, along with superior sound insulation throughout.

Additionally, for occasions when the owner’s customary morning swim around the boat is less inviting, the new Jangada will incorporate a jet-stream pool at the rear of the flybridge deck. The pool will measure 4.5m in length and 1.5m deep, requiring around 7,200 liters of water.

Alongside the obvious stability considerations stemming from such a water volume, designers also needed to allocate space for a warm-water storage tank located in the hull beneath the tender garage.

The new Jangada displays a robust yet timeless design.

Incorporating this pool was one of many intricate aspects of the exterior design, with the owner eager to maintain the refined raised pilothouse appearance while embracing the added space of an additional deck. The increased volume has been achieved through a sophisticated arrangement of graphic lines resulting in a robust yet timeless aesthetic.

Large windows in the main saloon and ceilings reaching 2.6m in height are just some of the benefits stemming from the extra height created by having a raised seating area positioned above the recessed pool. Collectively, these features impart a unique and genuinely custom design to Jangada.

The owner requested spacious seating arrangements on the aft deck, flybridge, and in front of the wheelhouse.

Panoramic Views

Large windows significantly affect the ambiance indoors, enhancing views from within the yacht. This aligns harmoniously with another crucial request from the owner for panoramic vistas from the main deck and wheelhouse, which also functions as a secondary lounge.

An integrated design approach allows the dashboard screens to fold away when the helm is not in use, ensuring unobstructed views for the owner while relaxing or enjoying breakfast in this area at anchor.

Views are equally prioritized on the outdoor decks, featuring ample seating arrangements on the aft deck, flybridge, and in front of the wheelhouse. The customization level is such that an additional seat at the bow will be accurately positioned for an optimal view of sunsets in the owner’s home bay on the French Riviera.

This specificity is reflected in the boarding arrangements: aside from an aft passerelle, a second custom unit will be installed on the port side that can extend, rotate ninety degrees, and reveal self-levelling steps tailored to the precise height of the owner’s new pontoon.

Safety and Comfort

This sophisticated level of design reflects an overall emphasis on safety and comfort on board, featuring wide stairs and walkways throughout. Seagoing performance will be enhanced through a combination of twin Seakeeper gyros and Humphree fin stabilizers.

A 6m Williams tender will ensure smooth transfers to shore, accessible via a dedicated garage with a hydraulic side door.

Another personalized element will be increased privacy, with the crew area and circulation designed to remain distinct from the owner and guest spaces. All crew areas, like the pantry and galley, will be well-insulated to minimize noise transmission.

The full-beam master suite is located at the forefront of the main deck. Guest cabins on the lower deck will be fully customized for family life, complete with dedicated facilities for the owner’s children and grandchildren. A compact gym will provide opportunities for exercise when swimming is not feasible due to weather conditions.

Another crucial request included panoramic views from the main deck and wheelhouse interiors.

Rising to the Challenge

The interior style is being crafted to reflect the client’s identity and the family’s lifestyle on board. Architecturally functional, featuring ideal proportions of structure, space, and light, Jangada will showcase a meticulously designed interior with whitewashed wood elements.

As they look ahead, the craftsmen at Van der Valk are preparing for one of their most demanding projects yet, with a completion timetable of just 22 months.

Stay tuned for further updates, and if you’re attending, don’t miss the opportunity to view the 32m Jangada at the Cannes Yachting Festival (September 11-15) showcased by Van der Valk.
