Suzuki Marine is introducing its drive-by-wire technology in smaller outboard models, announcing the production of new 115- and 140-hp four-stroke outboards for the model year 2021.

According to Suzuki Marine, the DF115BG and DF140BG outboards are the first in their category to feature the benefits of drive-by-wire technology. This technology has been available on Suzuki’s 150- to 350-hp models for several years.

“We are thrilled to introduce new technology and enhanced performance to this vital segment of outboard motors,” stated George “Gus” Blakely, vice president of sales for Suzuki Motor of America Inc., Marine Division. “These are not only the world’s first four-stroke outboards in their category to incorporate factory drive-by-wire technology, but they also boast a new design, fresh appearance, and improved performance suitable for a variety of boats worldwide.”

Blakely mentioned that these outboards simplify rigging for boatbuilders, while offering consumers smooth shifting, immediate throttle response, and improved performance. Aside from incorporating drive-by-wire technology, Suzuki’s engineers focused on enhancements under the cowling.

The 2.0-liter outboards feature an upgraded compression ratio of 10.6:1, enabling better top speed and acceleration through enhanced thermal efficiency. Suzuki claims that the DF115BG and DF140BG outboards offer 5 to 7 percent greater fuel efficiency compared to previous models.

Additional upgrades comprise a 40-amp alternator in both models for improved output and battery charging capability at low idle. For easier routine maintenance, Suzuki designed the oil filter to be replaceable simply by removing the upper engine cover. A new Oil Spill Catcher surrounding the oil filter mount allows for a mess-free filter change. Suzuki also included an easy-access Water Detection Fuel Filter to safeguard the engine against polluted fuel.

With many improvements under the cowling, Suzuki revamped the exterior to feature a sporty, streamlined design. The newly designed cowling incorporates a fresh air intake system with enhanced water separation and a silencer-resonator system to reduce engine noise at all speeds, according to Suzuki.

Both new outboards showcase updated graphics and a new Super Cool White color scheme for 2021, alongside Suzuki’s classic Pearl Nebular Black. The DF115BG and DF140BG come with 20-inch and 25-inch shaft length options.

Suzuki Marine stated that it will still offer the existing DF115A and DF140A outboards in addition to the new models, which are expected to enter production in October. For further details on Suzuki Marine’s outboard offerings, visit www.suzukimarine.com.
