As center-console boats grow larger, consumers are requesting enhanced features to elevate their boating experience. To address these demands, Seakeeper introduced its newest marine stabilization unit, the Seakeeper 18, during the Cannes Yachting Festival.

The Seakeeper 18 is designed for boats measuring 65 to 75 feet or vessels weighing up to 56 tons. According to the company, the new system offers greater angular momentum without increasing weight, size, or power.

“Customers expect the best performance available,” stated Seakeeper President & CEO Andrew Semprevivo in a press release. “It’s no longer about just minimizing roll; clients now frequently request that it be eliminated entirely. The Seakeeper 18 was created to meet that demand.”

The company asserts that the Seakeeper delivers an impressive 18,000 Newton-meter-seconds (N-m-s) of angular momentum, a standard measure of gyroscopic output. Remarkably, it maintains the same footprint as the Seakeeper 16 model released five years prior.

This gyroscope reportedly diminishes boat roll by 95 percent, effectively removing the swaying motion that can lead to seasickness and fatigue. According to the company, the Seakeeper 16—introduced five years ago—is now fitted in approximately 50 percent of all new boats within its target size category.

Semprevivo informed the press in Cannes that the new model is intended to offer additional options rather than replace current products. The Seakeeper 18 weighs 2,250 pounds with dimensions of 3 feet, 6 inches in length and 3 feet, 7 inches in width. The unit can be placed almost anywhere on the boat, although Seakeeper collaborates with boat builders to identify the most suitable location.

Seakeeper also provides a new, user-friendly dashboard display that can integrate with existing dashboards. The active control feature optimizes gyro torque, enhancing performance. Unlike passively controlled gyros that need to be turned off under rough conditions or at higher speeds, the Seakeeper functions effectively at all speeds and in all sea states.
