World Sailing is calling for proposals for exhibition events at the 2026 and 2027 World Sailing Championships. Successful events may also be considered for future inclusion in World Sailing events and the Olympic Games program starting in 2032.
The revamped shared format of the World Sailing Championships allows for invitational events. Applications are welcomed from all sectors of the sport and will be assessed based on World Sailing’s Olympic Vision criteria.
David Graham, the CEO of World Sailing, noted, “The World Sailing Championships offer a rare chance to highlight events that are in line with our future vision for Olympic sailing.”
“This year’s Paris 2024 Olympic Games included Men’s and Women’s Kite for the first time, which was a major success. Both were invitational events at the 2018 World Sailing Championships in Aarhus and have since become significant within the sport, demonstrating that our strategy for developing events can evolve into disciplines that become regular World Sailing events and part of the Olympic curriculum.”
Those interested should connect with the World Sailing Executive Office via email to obtain the bid document, which must be completed and returned by 20 January 2025.
To maintain a transparent and open process, a Working Party of experts from various committees will be formed to evaluate all proposals based on the Olympic Vision criteria, making a recommendation to the World Sailing Board for review in February 2025.
