It was a long and challenging morning for the teams in Group A on the second day of qualifying for the Puig Women’s America’s Cup. Due to an extremely unstable breeze, the Race Committee managed to start only one of the four planned races, despite numerous delays both on land and water. By 4 pm, all teams were ordered back to shore because of insufficient wind.
The PWAC will continue tomorrow with races #6, #7, and #8, starting at 10:10 am (weather permitting). Once Group A’s qualification round concludes, the Committee will commence the four semifinal races involving the top six teams (the leading three from each group). The first semifinal race is projected to begin at 14:10.
RACE #05
The regatta proved to be very challenging due to the waves and highly inconsistent and patchy wind. After a strong start on the left side of the line, Luna Rossa had enough wind to remain on its foils and rounded the first mark in third position.
However, on the initial downwind leg, the wind suddenly faded, causing the boats to fall off their foils and stall. Luna Rossa also found itself in a windless area and struggled to get back onto the foils.
Despite the challenging conditions, the Italian team managed to recover several positions, finishing the race in fourth place.
Luna Rossa: 4th (+ 3 points).
The Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli crew includes: Giulia Conti, Margherita Porro (helmswomen), Maria Giubilei, and Giulia Fava (trimmers).
