The realm of Olympic sailing is poised for transformation with the introduction of the Sailing Grand Slam (SGS)—a global series that merges the most revered regattas alongside the event set for the 2028 Olympic host city.

This visionary initiative, crafted in partnership with World Sailing, aims to create a worldwide stage to highlight elite sailors as they prepare for the LA 2028 Olympic Games.

World Sailing has backed this emerging project as an initial step in revitalizing the World Cup Series, reflecting the commitments laid out in the Olympic Vision of the international federation.

The series will feature:

Trofeo SAR Princesa Sofia – Mallorca, Spain
Semaine Olympique Française – Hyères, France
Dutch Water Week – Almere, Netherlands
Kieler Woche – Kiel, Germany
Long Beach Olympic Classes Regatta – Long Beach, USA

A Unified Vision for Olympic Sailing

These five regattas align with the goals outlined in World Sailing’s Olympic Vision, which details how the International Federation intends to bolster sailing’s role within the Olympic Movement.

Together, the regattas aim to achieve the following over the four-year cycle:

A shared website for updates and information
A unified registration platform and event documentation, including a common Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions
An extensive media and communication plan to raise the global profile of Olympic sailing
Sustainability initiatives emphasizing responsible practices across all events
Collaboration opportunities for all parties involved in Olympic sailing, including provided equipment and testing of new formats, always in line with Olympic standards.

Through this joint effort, the series will establish a training program for race officials and collaborate closely with World Sailing and the Olympic Classes to deploy optimal technology solutions for sailors and enhance race management, also allowing for the testing of new formats and equipment.

Initial Details Coming Soon

The collective Notice of Race, containing comprehensive entry requirements and event particulars, will be released in early December.

In partnership with the Olympic Classes and World Sailing, the Sailing Grand Slam aspires to deliver an unmatched competitive experience that enhances visibility, integrity, and accessibility of Olympic sailing globally.

Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new journey.
