After 24 years of racing on these waters, Julio Alsogaray and Malena Sciarra (ARG) excelled on day four of the Snipe World Championship. They achieved an impressive 8-1 today, skillfully navigating both the lighter winds in the morning and the stronger afternoon breezes to establish a 31-point lead in the championship. Although anything can happen with one day left, they enjoy a substantial advantage.
Following a brief postponement onshore, the Race Committee sent the 85-boat fleet into the water, where they encountered winds starting at 9 knots, dropping to 6 knots at the start, and eventually rising to 12-13 knots by the end of the day’s first race. Ernesto Rodriguez/Taylor Scheuermann (USA) held the lead at the first mark, maintaining their advantage until the finish, followed closely by the Chilean duo Matias & Constanza Seguel, with Bernardo Peixoto/Gustavo Baiano (BRA) finishing third.
With the wind building to a steady 16 knots, the Race Committee promptly initiated race 6. The wind occasionally dipped to 11 knots, interspersed with stronger 14-knot gusts. Using their remarkable downwind speed, Alsogaray/Sciarra secured victory, while Spaniards Bernardo Armas Lasso/Miguel Bethencourt Fuentes followed closely. Ernesto Rodriguez/Taylor Scheuermann (USA) finished the day with a 1-3, moving closer to the top and gaining ground. Yesterday’s leaders, Enrique Quintero/Trevor Davis (USA), faced a challenging day, causing them to drop to third overall.
The final day is set for Saturday, November 2, when the 2024 World Champions will be determined. The Race Committee plans to hold 2 races, with the discard applied after 7 races. Many competitors have at least one drop race, so those maintaining low scores could rise to the top.
