Cobnor Activities Centre Trust Receives Funding for Young Helms Initiative

Cobnor Activities Centre Trust is pleased to announce that it has obtained funding from the Fat Face Foundation to continue its impactful Young Helms initiative. This funding will allow Cobnor to enhance its sailing and outdoor education opportunities for youth and adults from 2025 to 2028.
Programme Highlights:
Positive Participation Trends
2021: 15 participants from 2 schools
2022: 26 participants from 2 schools
2023: 80 participants from 3 organizations
2024: 199 participants from 2 schools and 9 organizations
Positive Feedback
99% of participants express a desire to return
88% report a beneficial effect on their mental health
About the Young Helms Initiative:
Offers experiential sailing, skills training, and activities that build confidence
Each half-day session concludes with a hot lunch to promote community and connection
Increased Access:
“This funding empowers us to keep inspiring young individuals through outdoor learning and adventure,” said Caroline Fisk, Education Development Manager. “The Young Helms initiative not only imparts sailing skills, but also fosters resilience, teamwork, and a sense of community—qualities that will benefit participants for years to come.”

The Young Helms initiative reflects Cobnor’s commitment to inclusivity in outdoor education, aiming to boost participants’ confidence, enhance their connection to nature, and cultivate a lifelong affinity for the outdoors.
