Arriving in Dubai for the kickoff of the most ambitious SailGP season to date, the Black Foils are embracing the excitement and uncertainty that comes with new participants in what promises to be a thrilling race start.
Leo Takahashi’s inclusion in the Black Foils is among numerous roster changes that feature the launch of two new teams and alterations to most boats’ lineups.
“This is an exhilarating moment for SailGP – we’re entering the new season with a mix of new squads and faces alongside some familiar ones, just not all in the same teams as before,” Co-CEO Blair Tuke remarked.
“This shift brings a level of unpredictability. It’s unlikely that the same crews will dominate as in prior years; it will depend on who can quickly adapt and build momentum early on this season.”
Takahashi will be supported by Sam Meech, a recent addition to the coaching lineup. Tuke feels optimistic about the fresh energy and chances these new members will contribute.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Leo as our Flight Controller and Sam to our coaching staff,” Tuke said. “Having new faces on the team fosters enthusiasm, fresh viewpoints, and added strengths.”
“As we launch the season, we’re confident that this infusion of talent, along with our established expertise, systems, and successful methods from the past, will lead us to hit the ground running and compete for victories.”
Takahashi will join the seasoned team members: Peter Burling (Driver), Blair Tuke (Wing Trimmer), Liv Mackay (Strategist), Louis Sinclair (Grinder), and Marcus Hansen (Grinder) as they prepare for their first practice session this Thursday.
The Emirates Dubai Sail Grand Prix presented by P&O Marinas will take place this weekend. Watch the action live on Sail-World.com
