Day 3 of the 2024 World Sailing Youth Match Racing World Championship featured another exciting day of racing, with Australia, France, Sweden, and New Zealand earning their spots in the Final Four. The teams will now compete for the World Championship title tomorrow on the Red Sea.

Once again, the conditions were perfect, with a moderate north-westerly breeze blowing between 8 and 12 knots. Racing began at 1000hrs, completing the last two flights of the qualifying stage. The first match of the day was a rematch of the 2023 World Championship Final, where Australia faced France. The French team triumphed after a critical error by the Australians during the top mark rounding, allowing France to take advantage and secure the win. However, Australia rebounded strongly in their concluding round-robin match against New Zealand, achieving a decisive victory that secured their second place in the standings.

Australia then chose Denmark’s Matias Rossing, who finished seventh during the qualifying round, as their opponent for the Quarter-Finals. Team Australia dominated the competition, winning all three races and becoming the first team to proceed to the semi-finals.

The other three Quarter-Final matches witnessed a string of surprises, with France’s Ange Delerce, New Zealand’s Josh Hyde, and Sweden’s Marius Westerlind all advancing to the semi-finals alongside Australia. By the conclusion of the Quarter-Finals, the USA, France 2 (Rossi), Ireland, and Denmark were eliminated from the tournament.

The final racing day is set for tomorrow, with the semi-finals and championship matches slated to begin at 1800hrs AEDT. Stay updated on the latest results here, or for highlights from the event, follow the CYCA Youth Sailing Academy or Sail Saudi on social media.
