A southerly breeze of 5-7 knots resulted in new race winners on Friday, but the top positions on the leaderboard remained unchanged at the 2024 J/22 World Championship, taking place at Eastport Yacht Club in Annapolis, Maryland. Local teams Brad Julian’s Yard Sail and Chase Quinn’s Osprey exchanged first and second places, boosting their standings on this second-to-last day.

Travis Odenbach’s Honeybadger scored 11 and 9, maintaining the overall lead with 36 net points. Just five points differentiate the teams ranked from second to sixth: Julian’s Yard Sail, Glenn Darden’s Baby Doll, Will Welles’ Cougar, Quinn’s Osprey, and Jeff Todd’s Hot Toddy.

After a delay onshore, Quinn’s Osprey surpassed the 48-boat fleet, finishing ahead of Julian’s Yard Sail and Jeff Hayden’s Polar Express. The Race Committee implemented another U Flag start for race 8, followed by a general recall, which necessitated a black flag start. During a subsequent general recall, eight boats were over early, prompting yet another black flag start. In race eight, Julian’s Yard Sail outperformed the fleet, followed by Quinn’s Osprey and local competitor Todd’s Hot Toddy.

Racing will conclude with two races on Saturday. Full event details are available here.
