27 October – 2 November 2024
The iQFOiL Youth and Junior World Championships began their race schedule on Monday, featuring 375 competitors from 35 countries sailing off the coast of Club Nàutic Sa Ràpita (CNR) after the opening ceremony held yesterday. The initial day was challenging due to light and delayed winds, which affected the competition agenda.
Although the easterly winds stabilized around 4:00 pm at 8 to 10 knots, the Men’s U19 fleet managed to finish one Slalom race. Divided into yellow and blue divisions, both fleets had three heats, with six racers winning their heats: Federico Pilloni and Leonardo Tomasini from Italy, Lucas Gadeyne from France, Skip Brüll from The Netherlands, Igor Lewinski from Poland, and Val Erzen from Slovenia.
The U17 Men’s yellow fleet could only complete one heat, while the Girls’ fleets were unable to race due to the unfavorable conditions. Forecasts suggest better winds in the upcoming days.
Pau Lladó, president of CNR, expressed his honor in hosting the championship, stating, “Hosting this youth world championship is a significant honor for CNR and for Campos, as it enhances the profile of both the club and the municipality on national and international stages. We welcome all the athletes, their coaches, and families; you help us position Sa Ràpita as an essential hub in the sailing community.”
With an entire week of competition remaining, the iQFOiL Youth and Junior World Championship in Sa Ràpita is poised to display the skill and enthusiasm of this fleet of young sailors.
