For the third time this season, the ClubSwan Racing One Design circuit will organize a regatta in the beautiful waters of Sardinia, at Marina di Villasimius, following events in Alghero and Porto Cervo. With the strong support of local organizers, the final stage of the 2024 Nations League is set to be a highlight in the sailing calendar, showcasing the new ClubSwan 28.
The competition will host teams and sailors from 7 different nations: Japan, the United States, Australia, Italy, France, Switzerland, and Monaco.
The Swan Sardinia Challenge, supported by the Autonomous Region of Sardinia’s Department of Tourism, Handicrafts, and Commerce, is made possible by the backing of Marina di Villasimius, the Lega Navale Italiana (LNI) Villasimius section, and the Yacht Club Villasimius.
Renato Marconi, CEO of the Marinedi Group, expressed pride in hosting the regatta: “The Marinedi Group team is excited to welcome back the ClubSwan Racing circuit to the stunning waters of Villasimius, located within the Capo Carbonara Marine Protected Area on Sardinia’s picturesque southeast coast.”
“We are thrilled to host this international event,” stated Sergio Ghiani, president of the LNI of Villasimius. “The upcoming regatta will be quite special, involving sailors and guests of great significance on the global stage. This occasion will enhance Villasimius’s profile as a premier sailing destination worldwide.”
The latest provisional standings of The Nations League ClubSwan 28 indicate a competitive race at the forefront, with the provisional leader and Rolex Swan Cup champion, MARCELLO (Philippe Ligot), tied on points with ANYA RACE, helmed by Swiss skipper Giulio Gatti.
“We couldn’t have selected a more perfect location to conclude this exceptional season, in one of the most genuine yet welcoming regions of Sardinia, where autumn’s lighting will surely create unforgettable moments. Witnessing the ClubSwan 28 fleet come together and receiving favorable feedback post its debut at the Rolex Swan Cup brings us pride and excitement for the 2025 season, which is expected to be thrilling,” shared Federico Michetti, Head of Sport Activities at Nautor Swan.
“I am very pleased that Nautor has chosen the Italian Sailing Federation – Sardinia for the third time this season,” remarked Corrado Fara, President of the Italian Sailing Federation – Sardinia. “I wish to thank ClubSwan Racing for selecting us once again; we are confident that they are truly satisfied with the warm reception from our region and the optimal marine conditions available. This offers us a fantastic opportunity to conclude a season filled with international events across the island, establishing Sardinia as a significant hub for sailing. The support from the Sardinia Region allows us to host regattas that bring economic benefits to the area and enable visitors to discover our island, subsequently extending our tourism season.”
The regatta will span four days, commencing with the Practice Race on Wednesday, October 30, followed by three days of windward-leeward races on Thursday, October 31, Friday, November 1, and Saturday, November 2. An engaging week of social activities on land will accompany the racing on the water, with teams accommodated at the Hotel Stella Maris, the designated stay for all participants. This will be a week filled with competition on the sea and fellowship on land.
