Outerlimits Powerboats is making a significant entry into the center-console market as production commences on the new luxury SX-39 Center Console.

The company had previously hesitated to create a center-console model, opting instead to focus on building specialized high-performance boats, including catamarans and V-bottoms ranging from 29 to 50 feet.

“I believe society is evolving because people simply don’t have the time for multiple specific boats, so they need one boat that can do everything,” stated Jason Amaral, operations manager at Outerlimits Powerboats.

The first hull of the SX-39 is in its final stages of production at the Outerlimits facility in Bristol, Rhode Island. The running surface is derived from the SV-43, a boat that holds the kilo record for the fastest V-bottom in the world at 180.47 mph. The original bottom, designed by the late founder Mike Fiore, features a five-step FVS (Fiore Ventilated Steps) that enhances speed and fuel efficiency.

The SX-39 hull is constructed using epoxy resin-impregnated e-glass with carbon fiber reinforcements via an advanced vacuum-bag construction method.

This model can be configured with either triple or quad outboards, capable of delivering up to 1,800 horsepower. Mercury Racing is the preferred engine supplier, though Outerlimits is open to rigging other brands as well.

“Some customers want to simply jump in the boat, turn the keys, and experience speeds of 75 mph or 80 mph with an outboard-powered boat,” Amaral remarked. “It makes it easy and stress-free.”

The SX-39 comes fully loaded with standard features, which include a carbon-fiber T-top equipped with a full JL Audio sound system; a dive door; console cabin featuring a head, sink, and V-berth; Garmin GPSMAP 1242XSV Touch multifunction unit; a cockpit wet bar; and fishing amenities such as rod holders, two drained in-deck fish boxes, and a built-in aft cooler.

“In designing this boat, I essentially created the boat I would want to walk into any manufacturer and purchase,” Amaral explained.

Amaral anticipates that the SX-39 will be finished by June, with the cockpit being painted in the week of May 11. Hull No. 2 has already been sold and will enter production once the first boat is completed. The aim is to unveil the company’s initial center-console model at the Newport International Boat Show in September.

“As I mentioned earlier, many of our customers’ needs have evolved,” Amaral stated. “Some had been purchasing other brands, but now, with our center-console offering, we can better serve our customers.”
