Participating in a fishing tournament for the first time may feel overwhelming. A Florida organization is hosting a relaxed tournament and educational seminar in June.

Ladies, Let’s Go Fishing is presenting the LLGF Screamin’ Reels tournament from June 21-23 in Islamorada, Florida. This event is aimed at beginners and is open to women, men, and teenagers.

The tournament begins on June 21 with a class on offshore fishing and conservation by Capt. Skip Bradeen. That evening, an appetizer contest will take place from 6-8 pm at the Tavernier Elks Club in nearby Tavernier.

On June 22-23, the friendly angler competition will launch from Whale Harbor Marine in Islamorada. Participants can use their own boats or charters provided by the organization, which come with licenses and equipment included.

Prizes amounting to about $1,200 for individual anglers range from a Penn Squall combo, Penn Passion combo, art prints, and various other fishing gear. Awards for inshore and offshore species as well as releases include the heaviest fish overall, offshore billfish release, party boat award, junior angler, longest inshore fish, and wild card prizes.

The tournament features straightforward rules and is ideal for novice anglers, according to Betty Bauman, the founder of Ladies, Let’s Go Fishing. The organization aims to inspire more women to engage in fishing through seminars and tournaments.

Early registration is priced at $89 for adults, increasing to $99 before the event. Teenagers can sign up for $45, with entry including approximately $20 in gifts. It is advisable to book guided charter fishing with provided equipment and licenses early, as the charter boats tend to fill up quickly.

Local sponsors for the event include Breezy Palms Resort, the Monroe County Tourist Development Council, and Saltwater Breweries.
