Louis Vuitton has introduced a new chapter in its illustrious history with the unveiling of its Le Damier de Louis Vuitton Fine Jewellery Collection—an artistic marvel where tradition meets innovation.
The Damier pattern, originally designed in 1888 by Louis Vuitton and his son Georges, transcends mere design. It emerged as a hallmark of distinction, a checkered pattern that, through its repeating squares, conveyed the concept of infinity. Reflecting the number eight, symbolizing continuity and limitless opportunities, this design has evolved into more than just an embellishment; it’s a testament to Louis Vuitton’s exceptional craftsmanship and originality.
At the core of this revival is Francesca Amfitheatrof, the artistic director for Watches and Jewellery at Louis Vuitton, who has skillfully reinterpreted the Damier in her new collection.
“[Le Damier] is a collection of diamonds that focuses not merely on the gems but on the pattern they form,” she explains.
In fact, the diamonds, intricately set within the Damier’s design, contribute to a geometric composition that honors both resilience and elegance. Shimmering squares of yellow and white gold radiate with a captivating dance of light and shadow.
The collection includes 12 modern pieces, such as rings, necklaces, bracelets, and earrings, all designed with a fresh outlook on fine jewellery.

The tennis bracelet in this collection draws inspiration from a pivotal moment in jewellery history: during the notorious 1978 US Open, tennis legend Chris Evert’s diamond bracelet slipped off during a match, pausing the game until it was found. This celebrated incident led to the creation of the modern “tennis bracelet.”
Under Amfitheatrof’s vision, the tennis bracelet transforms into more than just a nod to heritage.
