A Grady-White Boats dealership located in Pompano Beach, Florida, aims to raise $50,000 for cancer research and support.
This cause is deeply personal for Jon Burkert, co-owner of Pompano Beach Marine Center, whose wife, Beth, recently battled and overcame breast cancer. The dealership is now contributing to Dolphins Challenge Cancer, which supports Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center as part of the University of Miami Health System.
The dealership has adorned a Fisherman 257 in pink, showcasing it at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. This initiative seeks to raise not only awareness about cancer but also funds to combat the disease. According to the American Cancer Society, one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.
As of early December, the fundraiser has generated $6,500 from 14 riders. Burkert intends to take the Fisherman 257 to the Miami International Boat Show to continue fundraising towards the $50,000 goal.
Founded in 2010 by the Miami Dolphins, Dolphins Challenge Cancer has evolved into the NFL’s largest fundraising event. Through collaboration with community organizations, participants have raised over $39.2 million for Sylvester.
Pompano Beach Marine Center marked its 60th anniversary in 2022 and has been a Grady-White Boats dealership since 1979.
