Formula Boats is enhancing its presence in the center-console market with the introduction of the 457 Center Console Sport during the 2024 Miami International Boat Show.

The new 457 Center Console Sport complements the 387 Center Console Sport & Fish in the company’s offerings, and like all its boats, it is built with exceptional durability. Formula’s Grant Porter officially introduced the latest model with a champagne toast.

“We gathered extensive feedback from both customers and the media regarding our 387 model and incorporated some new concepts,” said Porter, executive vice president of the family-owned business. “We’re very happy with how the boat turned out and can’t wait to welcome many customers to this model.”

Measuring nearly 49’1” with a 13’9” beam, Formula had ample space for designing the 457 Center Console. The model showcased in the water at Herald Plaza in downtown Miami was fully equipped, excluding an optional upper station that accommodates four individuals.

Formula engineered the 457 Center Console for triple Mercury Marine 600 Verado outboards and included a spacious swim platform with foam decking that extends into the cockpit. Few high-end center consoles match the space offered by the 457 Center Console Sport. A folding rear bench on the transom provides even more room.

Under the hardtop, there are two rows of seating along with a prep station featuring drawers and a cooler with a split lid that slides out with a button press. Every passenger is provided with an individual bolster with drop-out bottoms and adjustable armrests. The helm is stylish, equipped with triple Raymarine screens, Mercury Digital Throttle & Shift (DTS), and Mercury Joystick Piloting for outboards.

A large wraparound glass windshield protects the technology. An interesting feature is the screens held in place by a Wind-Armor gas shock on both sides to shield the crew from the wind. Some may argue that the finest seat on the 457 Center Console is located in the bow. Whether lounging on the two-person seat in front of the console or enjoying the deep bow seating with built-in forward-facing backrests, a comfortable ride at speed is assured.

From the robust hardtop to the cabinetry, Formula sets a high bar for build quality. While cabins are typically secondary, Formula meticulously designed the cabin to include six-foot-six headroom featuring a head with a separated stand-up shower. The U-shaped seating can be converted for overnight accommodations, and several windows allow ample natural light into the space. A microwave and a sink are also present in the cabin.

Weighing over 33,000 pounds, the 457 Center Console effortlessly navigates big waters, whether offshore or on expansive lakes. It is priced at $2.44 million.

“It’s a solid, heavy boat; we don’t produce lightweight models; our boats are designed for all weather conditions,” Porter explained. “We’re very satisfied with how robust the boat performed during our initial testing and photo shoot.”

As production ramps up for the 457 Center Console Sport, Formula will shift its attention to the Fish variant, which is slated for release this summer. The company offers Flex and MyWay options that enable extensive personalization in finishes and graphics.

Currently, the Indiana manufacturer is pleased with its center-console collection.

“We have a broad range of boats, but we will continuously monitor the center-console segment, and wherever we identify a need for various sizes, we will be there,” Porter added.
