CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) — Four individuals were rescued by the Coast Guard on Friday after a boat sank near Tybee Island, Georgia, as reported by the US Coast Guard.

The helicopter crew found the life raft and sent a rescue swimmer to assess the circumstances.

According to the Coast Guard, once the boat crew reached the site, they successfully rescued all four individuals and transported them to Station Tybee Island.

There were no reported injuries, and the vessel was last seen as partially submerged.

Lt. Michael Allen, the Sector Charleston search and rescue mission coordinator, stated,

“This incident and its positive outcome serve as proof of the importance of being prepared on the water. When the mariners encountered distress, they reached out to us using their VHF radio, wore their life jackets, deployed a raft, and activated an emergency GPS beacon. Their actions minimized the search efforts, enabling us to quickly rescue and reunite them with their friends and family.”
