Uttar Pradesh is gearing up to embrace exciting water tourism in its iconic cities of Kashi, Ayodhya, and Mathura. To establish these areas as new water tourism destinations, the state will soon launch modern open catamaran boats. Reports indicate that this initiative is expected to enhance the state’s burgeoning tourism sector.
If sources are to be believed, the state has officially unveiled plans to expand water tourism with the assistance of the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI). This collaboration includes the delivery of six catamaran boats aimed at enriching the tourist experience by offering scenic cruises along the rivers of key locations in Uttar Pradesh. Each of the mentioned cities will receive two catamarans.
Currently, there is one catamaran in both Ayodhya and Kashi, each with a passenger capacity of 50. The Uttar Pradesh State Tourism Corporation has outlined specific requirements for future catamarans, which must be open on all sides, equipped with a deck, a pantry, and toilets. Such facilities will allow visitors to appreciate the natural beauty while enjoying a delightful boat ride.
Jaiveer Singh, the Uttar Pradesh Tourism and Culture Minister, detailed plans regarding the state’s vibrant tourism expansion, stating, “We are actively engaging in various tourism projects, including rural tourism, agri-tourism, and water sports. The potential for water tourism in Uttar Pradesh is immense, and these catamarans are merely the beginning.” He also mentioned that last year saw over 480 million tourists flocking to the state’s diverse attractions, which encompass religious, spiritual, and eco-tourism sites.
Moreover, alongside the catamarans, the IWAI has recently sent electric boats to Prayagraj. This fleet includes two mini-cruise boats, each accommodating 30 passengers, along with six motorboats and two rescue boats. These vessels are set to commence operations after the monsoon season, increasing water travel options within the state.
The launch of open catamaran boats and various water activities is a vital element of Uttar Pradesh’s strategy to offer a wide array of tourism experiences. As Jaiveer Singh noted, “Tourists from across India and around the globe will soon have even more chances to explore our state.” This initiative is designed not only to draw more visitors but also to enhance the overall tourism experience in Uttar Pradesh.
