CANARY ISLANDS, Spain (WKRC) – A 30-year-old woman lost her leg due to a shark attack and subsequently passed away.
The tourist was sailing near Spain’s Canary Islands on Monday when she was bitten by a shark and died from a heart attack while being transported by helicopter to a hospital, according to CBS News.
She was attacked while swimming next to a catamaran, as reported by CBS News. The Moroccan coastguard dispatched a military plane and helicopter after someone on the boat called for assistance.
The International Shark Attack File reported 69 confirmed unprovoked attacks worldwide and 14 fatal shark attacks in 2023.
This incident follows less than a month after a teenager was decapitated in a shark attack in Jamaica.
