The Cannes Yachting Festival has showcased the launch of the Silent 62 3-Deck Open, a groundbreaking electric catamaran that aims to revolutionize luxury cruising. This event marks the first public appearance of the Open variant of the celebrated Silent 62 model, created by Silent Yachts.
Central to its design is a roomy 60-square-meter skylounge, encouraging owners and guests to embrace an open-air lifestyle with stunning vistas. The third deck is tailored for maximum versatility, allowing for varied layouts. Options range from spacious seating and dining arrangements to facilities like a bar, gym equipment, or even a hot tub. “The Silent 62 3-Deck has attracted the interest of boating enthusiasts, and the Open model enhances the advantages of the upper deck,” stated Fabrizio Iarrera, CEO of Silent Yachts.
This new model embodies the signature elegance of Silent Yachts, showcasing sleek profiles, generous deck spaces, and a contemporary aesthetic. With over 240 square meters of usable deck area, this vessel resembles a compact superyacht that operates entirely on electricity, propelled by a large solar panel array.
In warm regions like the Mediterranean and Florida, the Open version of the Silent 62 3-Deck presents a remarkable opportunity. Its striking hardtop, held by slender supports, offers almost unobstructed 360-degree sightlines while providing essential shade. It includes a well-equipped skylounge featuring a three-stool wet bar next to luxury seating made from durable, weather-resistant Sunbrella fabric, designed for comfort and longevity.
The design of the main deck exceeds traditional yacht layouts; the rear area serves as a social center, stepping away from the usual ‘cockpit’ terminology. Integrated couches encourage lounging and dining, with options for grilling and refrigeration discreetly hidden for an uncluttered look. The impressive 8-meter-wide stern becomes a recreational area for water sports and relaxation, featuring a teak-lined bathing platform that doubles as a tender lift.
Further forward, wide side decks lead to a lounge area adorned with sunbeds atop the master cabin’s roof. Sliding doors link the spacious 50-square-meter saloon to the outdoor living space, promoting fluid interactions between indoor and outdoor leisure. The saloon features a large galley and a flexible dining area that can host up to eight guests while achieving a chic and contemporary finish.
Silent Yachts is dedicated to sustainability, with electric propulsion being a key aspect of the Silent 62 3-Deck concept. The yacht is fitted with twin electric motors, scalable to 340kW, complemented by lithium-ion battery systems that allow significant cruising distances. Typical cruising speeds range from 6-8 knots, focusing on practicality without sacrificing performance.
Solar power is a vital element of the Silent Yachts’ doctrine. The 16.8kW solar array mounted on the hardtop ensures plenty of energy production. This capability permits extended periods of anchorage without using generators, providing a peaceful and quiet experience. Steve Bell, Vice Chairman, underscored this aspect, emphasizing that the quiet operation is very appealing to owners, enhancing onboard tranquility.
Prospective buyers can choose from several layout options for the forward section, either selecting a spacious owner’s suite spanning the twin hulls or a forward lounge with plenty of relaxing possibilities. Sleeping arrangements can include up to three extra double cabins, each equipped with natural light and ensuite facilities, ensuring comfort and luxury throughout the vessel.
Interior design is customizable, enabling owners to select finishes that reflect their personal style. The Silent 62 3-Deck Open effectively merges luxury with performance, reinforcing its status at the forefront of the eco-friendly yachting movement. With numerous storage options incorporated throughout, featuring large bins for gear and necessities, this catamaran is ready to make a significant impact in the industry.
Silent-Yachts manufactures the world’s first fully solar-sustainable oceangoing production catamaran yachts. They operate purely on solar power and can cruise up to 100 miles a day. In 2009, founders Heike and Michael Köhler, who have spent 6,000 days cruising over 75,000 miles around the globe, launched the Solarwave 46, the first fully self-sufficient blue-water catamaran after years of testing solar-powered propulsion, and they have been constructing boats ever since.
