Silent 62 3-Deck Open Solar Electric Catamaran Makes Its Global Debut in Cannes
The Cannes Yachting Festival has seen the launch of the Silent 62 3-Deck Open, a groundbreaking electric catamaran designed to revolutionize luxury cruising. This event marks the public introduction of the first Open iteration of the celebrated Silent 62 model created by Silent Yachts. Central to its design is a spacious 60-square-meter skylounge, encouraging owners and guests to embrace an outdoor lifestyle with stunning views. The third deck is adaptable for maximum versatility, offering numerous configurations. Choices range from large seating areas and dining tables to potential amenities like a bar, gym equipment, or even a hot tub. "The Silent 62 3-Deck has intrigued boating fans, and the Open version amplifies the advantages of the upper deck," noted Fabrizio Iarrera, CEO of Silent Yachts. This latest addition embodies the signature elegance of Silent Yachts, highlighting streamlined shapes, generous deck spaces, and contemporary style. With over 240 square meters of usable deck area, this vessel resembles a compact superyacht powered entirely by electricity from an extensive solar array.
In warm regions like the Mediterranean and Florida, the Silent 62 3-Deck Open presents a transformative experience. Its remarkable hardtop, upheld by slender supports, provides nearly unobstructed 360-degree views while offering essential shade. The skylounge is well-equipped with a three-stool wet bar next to premium seating covered in durable, weather-resistant Sunbrella fabric for comfort and longevity. The main deck’s design surpasses conventional yacht layouts; the aft section functions as a social center, avoiding the traditional ‘cockpit’ designation. Integrated couches encourage lounging and dining, with grilling and refrigeration options cleverly hidden for a tidy aesthetic. The impressive width of 8 meters at the stern creates a playground for water sports and relaxation, featuring a teak-lined bathing platform that can also serve as a tender lift.
Moving forward, wide side decks lead to a lounge area equipped with sunbeds on the roof of the master cabin. Sliding doors seamlessly connect the ample 50-square-meter saloon to the outdoor living area, enabling easy indoor and outdoor entertaining. The saloon boasts a spacious galley and a flexible dining area that can host up to eight guests, all presented in a chic, modern style. Silent Yachts prioritizes sustainability, with electric propulsion being a fundamental aspect of the Silent 62 3-Deck concept. The yacht is outfitted with twin electric motors, capable of reaching 340kW, alongside lithium-ion battery systems that allow for impressive cruising capabilities. Typical cruising speeds range from 6-8 knots, highlighting practicality while maintaining performance.
Solar energy is integral to Silent Yachts’ ethos. The 16.8kW solar array on the hardtop ensures effective energy production. This feature enables extended anchoring periods without generator reliance, providing a peaceful and quiet experience. Steve Bell, Vice Chairman, emphasized this advantage, noting that the tranquil operation is particularly attractive to owners, enhancing onboard comfort. Potential owners can select from various layout options for the forward section, choosing between a spacious owner’s suite across the twin hulls or a forward lounge with plentiful relaxation options. Bedroom configurations can include up to three additional double cabins, all featuring natural light and ensuite bathrooms, ensuring comfort and luxury throughout the vessel.
Interior design is customizable, allowing owners to choose finishes that align with their personal tastes. The Silent 62 3-Deck Open effectively merges luxury with performance, solidifying its position at the forefront of the eco-friendly yachting movement. Silent-Yachts is pioneering the world’s first fully solar-sustainable oceangoing production catamaran yachts, powered entirely by solar energy and capable of cruising up to 100 miles per day.
