Cantieri di Pisa presents the Saturno 56, the inaugural model in a new series of five yachts that reflect the shipyard’s rich stylistic heritage through a modern lens to meet current market needs. The fleet will range from the 38-meter entry model to the 90-meter flagship, all featuring black and white hull lines, generous “ribbon” windows, and a traditionally designed stern.
Saturno 56, the first model
The Saturno 56 is the first model to hit the market, featuring a refined beach club connected to the Main and Upper Decks via a transverse staircase, a six-cabin layout, and interiors designed by m2atelier, which has crafted the design for the Saturno range over 56 meters. The Milan-based studio, founded by Marco Bonelli and Marijana Radovic, promotes an informal, relaxed onboard lifestyle, perfectly suited for families in the third millennium.
The yacht is powered by two 1,600 hp Caterpillar C32 engines, and the shipyard is considering a hybrid alternative.
Five Steel and Composite Models
After introducing the Polaris 48, the first in a series of highly versatile cruisers, Cantieri di Pisa unveils the Saturno range, comprising five steel, aluminum, and composite models – Saturno 38, Saturno 48, Saturno 56, Super Saturno 64, and Super Saturno 90 – designed for owners seeking classic aesthetics and contemporary living spaces. Saturno 56, the inaugural model debuting in the market, combines traditional lines with extensive glazing, a swimming pool, and a gym, catering to modern preferences.
The chief designer of the shipyard, Antonio Luxardo, remarks: “This range features a classic layout that reflects Cantieri di Pisa’s traditional stylistic features – including the black and white lines on the hull and the ‘ribbon’ windows – while addressing the demand from contemporary owners for spaces that alternate between relaxation and activity, ensuring light-filled environments with significantly larger glass surfaces.”
The New Saturno 56
Measuring an overall length of 57 meters and a beam of 11.20 meters, the Saturno 56 is striking for its aft area, which recalls the shipyard’s historic models and includes a beach club with a traditional design, styled as a waterside terrace and dominated by a captivating swimming pool with a transparent bottom that enhances natural light. The beach club is fitted with three side and stern opening hatches, linking to both the Main and Upper Decks via the same transverse staircase. The Sun Deck features a gym area and is accessed by two side staircases.
The height of the expansive windows has been notably increased compared to the shipyard’s previous designs, resulting in luminous interiors that provide panoramic views from all areas aboard.
An Impressive Layout
The layout includes spacious and welcoming living areas such as the 90-square-meter Main Deck lounge and six cabins within the sleeping quarters. The interior design is handled by m2atelier, the architecture and design studio established by Marco Bonelli and Marijana Radovic, which creates communication channels between diverse experiences, cosmopolitan views, and multidisciplinary fields, displaying a clear affinity for yachting.
The designers from the Milan-based studio describe their contribution as follows: “Saturno is the new line of large vessels that reinterprets the iconic boats of Cantieri di Pisa, employing an innovative language and a harmonious mix of tradition and modernity to exemplify the sea-loft concept and aspire to an onboard lifestyle defined by the sense of freedom characteristic of these contemporary open-plan architectural designs that are perfect for families in the third millennium.
A fundamental element of the design is the refined elegance that enhances the perception of space by removing redundancies in the layout. The ample exteriors blend seamlessly with the spacious interiors, amplifying the fluidity of an informal and relaxed lifestyle while fostering a sense of well-being onboard. The design aspires to harmonize with the surrounding environment.
The neutral tones, highlighted with contrasting details and carefully integrated custom elements, provide a nuanced reinterpretation of the yacht’s legacy. The soft hues of the wallpaper, upholstery, and carpeting, enriched by two-tone, three-dimensional wood accents, coat both the floors and the coffered ceilings adorned with delicate brass joints or mini spotlights that emit warmth and enhance the sensory experience. Linear or patterned furnishings and minimalist finishes are included to generate a sense of simplicity and subtlety.
Watchword: Flexibility
The interiors emphasize flexibility, clean lines, essential shapes, and natural materials, bringing to life a timeless setting that resonates with the beauty of Japanese aesthetics. Each room invites contemplation and elicits feelings of tranquility and freedom through symmetrical layouts, ‘floating’ furniture, and floor-to-ceiling windows.
The continuous endeavor for a transparent connection to the external world and a clear preference for unobstructed views invite the sea into the yacht, providing seamless perspectives. The vessel encourages guests to relish their time onboard in an exceptionally personal manner.
As with all the yard’s projects, the 56 features an EHPH (Eco High Power Hull) displacement hull for long-range cruising and reduced consumption. Propulsion is provided by twin Caterpillar C32 engines rated at 1,600 hp each, and the yard is also investigating a hybrid alternative to meet the market’s demand for environmental sustainability.
