Suzuki Marine launches new DF300B to enhance its Ultimate Outboard Motors range.

While many outboard motor manufacturers compete to produce the highest horsepower, Suzuki Marine has focused on closing the gap in its Ultimate Outboard Motors series, which includes engines from 225 to 350 horsepower.

The newest addition to the V6 family is the DF300B, unveiled in early October at the IBEX Show in Tampa, Florida. This four-stroke outboard fills the gap between the 250 and 350 horsepower options offered by the Japanese engine maker.

“The DF300B’s compact design, performance traits, and fuel efficiency make it perfectly suited for contemporary large center console sport fishing boats, offshore catamarans, performance pontoons, and other favored watercraft,” stated Gus Blakely, vice president of sales for Suzuki Motor of America, Inc., Marine Division.

The DF300B uses Suzuki’s tested contra-rotating propeller system that enhances grip when drivers accelerate and offers improved midrange acceleration. Other advantages include better low-speed maneuverability for anglers and increased top-speed capabilities, according to Suzuki.

The outboard’s power is spread across six blades instead of the usual three-blade propeller, which has enabled engineers to utilize smaller gears to design a streamlined lower unit that glides through the water with reduced drag. The extra propeller blade surface minimizes steering torque and enhances reverse thrust, facilitating easier docking and close-quarter maneuvering. Both the front and rear prop are available in pitches from 19.5” to 31.5”.

This engine, with a displacement of 4.4 liters, has a compression ratio of 10.5:1 and features dual fuel injectors to maximize performance. Notably, the DF300B operates on 87-octane fuel, readily available at most marinas.

Suzuki employs two smaller fuel injectors to precisely provide fuel to the center of the combustion chamber, improving atomization and avoiding possible engine knock. The injection mechanism processes 100 percent of the fuel into the cylinder simultaneously, contributing to an additional 3 percent power boost.

According to Suzuki, the dual-louver, direct air intake system of the DF300B enables the engine to efficiently breathe while filtering out water, spray, and moisture to enhance reliability. This innovative intake delivers cooler, denser air to the outboard, supporting a more effective combustion cycle. Additionally, Suzuki’s Lean Burn Control Technology ensures maximum fuel efficiency throughout the entire RPM range.

Modern outboards operate quieter than those manufactured a decade ago, and the DF300B is no exception. Enhanced sound management and the engine cover have lowered decibel levels, even when the outboard operates at higher RPMs.

The DF300B adopts the same offset driveshaft engine configuration found in Suzuki’s other outboards, resulting in a compact design. Weighing 727 pounds with a 25-inch shaft, this new outboard is compatible with Suzuki’s Precision Control drive-by-wire throttle and shift systems. Noteworthy features include Suzuki’s Easy Start, troll mode, and multifunction display screen compatibility.

Suzuki indicates that its 300-hp outboard is perfect for new installations and repowering older vessels. Blakely mentioned that the DF300B suits heavily loaded hulls with passengers, fuel, and gear.

New Suzuki outboards are backed by a three-year warranty for recreational users, and customers can extend this protection to a total of six years. The company has yet to announce the DF300B’s pricing, which is expected to become available to consumers in January.

“We are excited to bring the numerous benefits of our counter-rotating propeller technology—initially developed for Suzuki’s 350hp 4-stroke—to this new and significant segment of the boating industry,” Blakely remarked.
