Jan-Erik Vitala, co-founder of Axopar, played a pivotal role in establishing a marketplace for adventure boats designed for activities ranging from deep-sea diving to climbing on remote islands.
The latest flagship vessel by the Finnish boat manufacturer, the Axopar 45, was introduced at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in late October. The Axopar 45 (45′ 7″ LOA, 13′ 6″ beam) will be available in five deck configurations: Spyder (Open), T-Top, Sun-Top, Cross-Top, and Cross Cabin.
The model boasts the company’s signature plumb bow, which not only creates additional space at the bow, but also enhances handling, according to Vitala.
“Extending the bow also elongates the keel, which means when navigating slowly in harbors, our low-profile design prevents the wind from affecting the boat as much,” explained Vitala.
Standard power comes from three 300-hp Mercury V8 Verado outboards, delivering a cruising speed of 34.5 mph and a maximum speed surpassing 50 mph.
The Axopar 45 is now the largest vessel in the lineup, with the one showcased in Fort Lauderdale being the first hull to accumulate over 260 hours of use.
“We’re pushing the limits to see how far we can take it, as if it breaks with us, it won’t break with our customers,” Vitala said.
Vitala stated that Axopar has produced over 4,000 boats in the past decade, focusing more on delivering superior performance. The 45-foot model is well-equipped with standard features such as a queen-size V-berth, facing lounges, and a full-height enclosed head with shower and electric toilet.
“For us, the boat’s drivability is paramount,” highlighted Vitala. “It doesn’t feel like a 45-footer; it’s incredibly nimble, sporty, and enjoyable to drive.”
Vitala appreciates the versatility of the 45-foot Cross Cabin, which includes five distinctive seating arrangements for social interaction and entertainment.
“There are five unique spots to lounge or relax outside, allowing you to enjoy the sun and wind in your hair while still being inside a covered cabin,” said Vitala. “When the weather changes, you can simply close the door and the roofs, creating a fully enclosed space equipped with full AC or heating.”
To offer a range of deck configurations, Axopar employs a modular construction method. “We’re increasingly adopting an automotive industry approach in our model development,” he shared.
Production of the Axopar 45 has commenced, with deliveries to U.S. customers scheduled to begin in January 2023.
