ASC57: 57m Adventure Sailing Catamaran

The Australian superyacht manufacturer Echo Yachts has begun the construction of its latest project, the ASC57, at its shipbuilding facility within the Australian Marine Complex in Western Australia.

This innovative endeavor unites industry experts from around the world. Collaborating with prominent Dutch yacht designers Dykstra Naval Architects and Australia’s top aluminium multihull specialists, One2Three Naval Architects, Echo Yachts aims to create the largest sailing catamaran in existence.

Inspired by Echo Yachts’ 2023 new-build motor yacht M/Y Charley 2, the ASC57 will offer similar luxurious accommodations, a wide range of water toys, and the ability to land helicopters.

In contrast, this superyacht will introduce a twin-Dynarig sailing system designed by Southern Spars, combined with Dykstra’s elegant and streamlined aesthetic for sailing yachts.

The incorporation of sail power necessitates a regenerative power system, featuring twin shaft generators and a battery storage system for silent operation under sail.

A CPP driveline enhances this system, enabling the vessel to utilize its main engines without operating separate generators for improved efficiency while under power.

Featuring hydrodynamically optimized aluminium hulls, full sail-powered propulsion, power regeneration, and deployment options, the ASC57 presents substantial eco-friendly performance benefits and more sustainable operational modes compared to traditional motoryachts.

Project Overview:

Echo Yachts has partnered with two prestigious sailing and aluminium multihull design firms to realize the ASC57 project. The extremely efficient aluminium hull design is enhanced by twin Dynarigs providing around 1660 m2 of sail area for eco-friendly long-distance cruising. This project will also emphasize weight reduction, simplicity, and ease of operation.

The esteemed Dykstra Naval Architects from Amsterdam, Netherlands, are responsible for the yacht’s exterior appearance, layout, and naval architecture, bringing a prestigious portfolio that includes legendary sailing yachts like S/Y Black Pearl and S/Y Hetairos.

Detailed naval architecture and structural design are undertaken by the Australian firm One2Three Naval Architects, who are also behind the award-winning 84m aluminium trimaran superyacht M/Y White Rabbit delivered in 2018, as well as the 56m catamaran superyacht M/Y Charley 2 delivered in 2023.

The development of this expansive catamaran sailing yacht project marks Echo Yachts’ transition from established custom motor yacht construction into the large sailing yacht segment.

More updates will follow throughout the build process.
