Applications are currently open for match racing skippers who wish to take part in the 2025 California Dreamin’ Series.
This well-established series includes events at four notable yacht clubs along the West Coast:
San Diego Yacht Club featuring J/22s on January 25-26, 2025.
Balboa Yacht Club hosting Gov Cup 22s on February 15-16, 2025.
St. Francis Yacht Club with J/22s on March 8-9, 2025.
Long Beach Yacht Club accommodating Catalina 37s on April 5-6, 2025.
The Invitation Committee of the Organizing Authority will evaluate applications received by December 1, 2024, and will distribute invitations until each event reaches capacity. Skippers can request invitations for specific events through the Request for Information form.
Priority will be given to skippers who choose to participate in three of the four events, although there are often available spots for those attending only one or two. While a skipper can win the California Dreamin’ Series by entering only three events, the top performer who also participates in Long Beach will receive a prestigious invitation to the 2026 Ficker Cup, offering their team an opportunity to qualify for the 2026 Grade 1 Congressional Cup.
The leading skipper that competes at Long Beach will earn an invitation to the 2026 Ficker Cup, with a chance to qualify for the 2026 Congressional Cup.
The California Dreamin’ Series traditionally marks the first match racing regattas of the year in the country and plays a vital role in nurturing emerging match racers, many of whom have transitioned to national competition.
“The California Dreamin’ Series has successfully developed numerous skippers and crew into this specialized sport,” said Bruce Stone, a committee member of the California Dreamin’ Series. “The event is highly desired by race committee volunteers and umpires due to the relentless action and the need for everyone involved to stay focused in order to complete a full round-robin each day—hosting eight teams means 28 matches each day, weather permitting.”
