The second Junior Pan American Games will occur from August 9 to 23, 2025, in Asunción, Paraguay. Athletes winning gold in this junior edition will automatically qualify for the 2027 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru. The Junior “Pan Ams” aim to spot and nurture the young talents destined to become future Pan American and Olympic champions.
Preliminary Selection Procedures for Junior Pan American Games 2025
This opportunity allows junior athletes to qualify for the 2027 Pan American Games, adding spots to those available through the standard qualification process. Each 2027 Pan American Games sailing event will have an additional berth. This entry is awarded to winning athletes, not the countries, and it cannot be transferred.
A total of 4,206 athletes from 41 countries across 28 sports will gather in Paraguay’s capital, with sailing events scheduled in Encarnación, located 230 miles southeast of Asunción.
The upcoming Junior Pan Ams will feature sailing in the following categories:
Men (3)
Men’s Windsurfing (iQFOiL)
Men’s Singlehanded Dinghy (ILCA 7)
Men’s Kite (Formula Kite)
Women (3)
Women’s Windsurfing (iQFOiL)
Women’s Singlehanded Dinghy (ILCA 6)
Women’s Kite (Formula Kite)
Athletes must meet the age conditions set by the Pan American Sport Confederation: be at least 17 and not older than 22 during the year of the Junior Pan American Games (birth years 2003-2008, inclusive).
US Sailing is issuing this Preliminary Notice to provide timely information regarding the Athlete Selection Procedures for the 2025 Junior Pan American Games. This document is meant to complement, not replace, the finalized Athlete Selection Procedures. US Sailing will share further updates once the procedures are approved.
The Preliminary Notice for Athlete Selection Procedures for the 2025 Junior Pan American Games was released on November 4, 2024.
“I’m eager to generate momentum with our Olympic Development camps this winter leading up to the Junior Pan Am Games qualifier for four of the six classes,” said Rosie Chapman, Olympic Development Director. “Athletes are being mentored by our Olympic and Pan Am Games athletes and will gain substantial experience before the selection event. Retention and knowledge sharing is crucial for the development program’s success, and passing expertise from our seasoned veterans is a significant step forward. As a team, we are well-positioned.
“This step is crucial in an athlete’s journey,” Chapman added. “The event is part of the Team USA delegation effort, giving athletes their first ‘Games’ experience. We have an impressive depth of talent across the classes, making for a competitive selection process!”
