Alessandro Marega from Italy has achieved the status of the new Finn World No. 1. He is only the second sailor to reach World No. 1 since the introduction of the Finn Class World Ranking List two years ago, following an incredibly successful year.

Laurent Hay, the long-time World No. 1 from France, has fallen to second place, trailing by less than three points, while Valerian Lebrun, also from France, has advanced ten spots to third, just another five points adrift. The competition at the top is exceptionally tight.

The seventh issue of the Finn World Ranking features an additional 24 events, with a total of 935 individual race results. This updated list now includes 1,334 sailors from 40 countries.

Marega’s impressive series of results includes a bronze medal at the 2023 Open Europeans and the 2024 Finn Gold Cup, followed by victories at the 2024 Open Europeans, Italian Nationals, and the Malcesine Finn Cup.

This is the first time that Laurent Hay, who has held the World No.1 title for the past two years, has not won any ranking events for this current list, finishing behind Lebrun in both major competitions and the French Nationals.

Notable changes in the top 10 rankings include Bas de Waal from The Netherlands, who moved up one position to fourth, and Peter Peet, who rose three spots to fifth. The highest climber is Britain’s Nick Craig, who jumped 49 places to enter the top 10 for the first time in eighth, while Spain’s David Terol has made a comeback into the top 10, climbing 17 positions to tenth.

The 24 included events are as follows:

  • Brazilian Nationals, won by Antonio Moreira

The upcoming World Ranking List will be released in March 2025.
