The theme chosen by the designers for the Excess 13 was lightness, promoting the pleasure of using this catamaran.

Excess 13

Receiving a rare Lego set is one of the most unexpected (and fantastic) ways I have encountered for launching a new model (especially for those with a child who loves Lego). Constructing something piece by piece compels you to notice the details, and in the process, I realized that the 43-foot Excess 13 is a noteworthy new model for the Groupe Beneteau brand.

Cruising sailors can either be attracted to or deterred by aft helms. My observation is that sailors of monohulls familiar with direct rudder feedback tend to prefer them (while others accustomed to bulkhead or flybridge controls look for improved visibility). In today’s market, Nautitech and Excess have been at the forefront of aft helm catamarans, making it particularly relevant to see Excess now employing the expertise of Marc Lombard Yacht Design for the Excess 13.

The Lombard design studio has had an influence on the new Excess 13

The Lombard design studio has influenced the new Excess 13

Why is this significant? Because Lombard was responsible for the contemporary lineup of Nautitechs. Now the firm from La Rochelle has been assigned the task of enhancing the first generation of Excess models designed by VPLP and Patrick Le Quément by concentrating on hull configurations and weight reduction for the Excess 13, aiming to improve performance and overall enjoyment. You can observe Lombard’s signature reverse sheer style in the design.

At the same time, the theme of lightness, both in reality and perception, became the central idea for Jean-Marc Piaton (interior designer of the modern CNB range). Hence, it’s clear that the collaboration of two renowned design firms aims to create a refreshing new take on the Excess brand. The Excess 13 can be configured with either four cabins featuring mirrored layouts in each hull or a three-cabin variant that includes an owner’s hull. The latter design incorporates a desk with a sea view, perfect for a home office setup.

The Excess 13 embodies the theme of lightness

Indeed, we successfully created our first sleek (mini) catamaran, which offers far more tangible inspiration than a vehicle from Star Wars.
