Auckland’s ferry services will soon include a high-speed electric hydrofoiling craft early next year.
The new vessel, the Vessev VS-9, will operate tours on the Hauraki Gulf as part of Fullers’ fleet beginning January 29, 2025.
Initially accommodating 8 passengers, the VS-9 will expand to hold 10 guests, achieving speeds of up to 30 knots (55 km/h), delivering a thrilling and efficient tour experienc
“It introduces a completely new mode of transport,” stated Fullers360 CEO Mike Horne.
“[It is] not only highly enjoyable but also efficient, playing a critical role in lowering emissions.
“We are enthusiastic about the future potential of Vessev’s innovations and eagerly anticipate the initial passenger trips in the new year, which will be the beginning of many.”
The VS-9 will be the first electric hydrofoiling craft brought to market by a significant operator, with a 40-minute cruise priced at $195 per person and a private charter available for a total of $2000.
Though the new vessel measures just nine metres long, a representative for Vessev indicated that larger 100-seat models are already in development.
“This represents a major milestone in Fullers360’s effort to decarbonise and signals a new chapter in luxury tourism for New Zealand,” Horne remarked.
“Vessev’s achievements to date are a significant advancement for green technology and our local tourism sector; this truly puts New Zealand on the map and reinforces our status as innovators in the maritime field.”
