Yves Béhar and Rossinavi Unveil the ‘Solsea’ Catamaran at Design Miami

Yves Béhar and Rossinavi’s Solsea at Design Miami 2024

Yves Béhar unveils the Solsea hybrid-electric catamaran, a collaboration with Rossinavi, at Design Miami 2024. Combining 40 years of ocean exploration expertise, Béhar delivers a vessel that redefines eco-friendly luxury. The collaboration has been in the works for approximately three years, culminating in the yacht’s presentation at Design Miami 2024, taking place from December 4th to 8th. Partnering with Amorim, Béhar incorporates cork flooring—an eco-friendly alternative to teak—and integrates solar panels across Solsea’s sleek exterior, blending sustainability with modern design.

From a bird’s eye view, solar panels blanket Solsea’s exterior, generating clean energy to power the vessel. Its use of green fuel minimizes emissions, noise, and vibrations for a serene cruising experience. Additionally, Béhar has incorporated a full-width hydraulic rear door for watersports and activities and designed a flexible mechanical hardtop with sculptural frames for the lounge pool, allowing the owner to adjust it while cruising. He has curated an elevated bar that rises above the already raised lounge area, providing passengers with stunning views of the ocean and increased natural light from the skylight overhead.

Hybrid-Electric Catamaran Superyacht Featuring Cork Flooring

A distinctive element of Yves Béhar’s design for Rossinavi’s hybrid-electric catamaran superyacht is the combination of natural matte wood tones and bouclé textiles along with the cork flooring. The founder of FuseProject carefully harmonizes the interior and exterior, ensuring they share the same soft and earthy color schemes and warm lighting. The interior spans 14 meters (45 feet) in width and mirrors the living spaces of an apartment, offering flexible and customizable lounging and entertaining options.

During Design Miami 2024, both the designer and the yacht company have revealed all these features, including the owner’s cabin, which stretches across the unit’s full width and offers panoramic 180-degree views from every seating area. Solsea, as a hybrid-electric catamaran superyacht, can operate entirely on electric power during day trips. For longer journeys, electric power usage reduces to 90%, and drops to 80% for transatlantic crossings, with a full charge achievable from shore power in about five hours.

Vessel Captures Solar Energy in Hibernation Mode

When in hibernation mode, Rossinavi’s hybrid-electric catamaran superyacht collects energy via the solar panels. The owner can opt to use the onboard solar power to energize various locations and devices, enough to power a complete villa, according to Rossinavi. Solsea is also equipped with Rossinavi’s AI technology, which monitors the vessel’s battery pack and aids in extending its lifespan. This system can also assist and interact with the crew, providing necessary maintenance suggestions to keep the superyacht in prime condition.

This innovative energy-collecting method stems from Rossinavi’s BluE philosophy, which represents the company’s latest series of hybrid-electric yachts. It emphasizes that these new yachts increasingly rely on batteries and solar panels for power, contributing to a less detrimental environmental impact. The design of BluE draws inspiration from phytoplankton, microscopic marine life that utilizes sunlight for energy. In a similar manner, the hybrid-electric catamaran superyacht gathers sunlight during the day through solar panels and stores energy in advanced batteries, creating a bioluminescent effect around the vessel when using this stored energy at night.
