The 2024 World Sailing Youth Match Racing World Championship, organized in collaboration with Sail Saudi and Jeddah Yacht Club and Marina, officially commenced today, signaling the start of a thrilling week of competitive sailing in Saudi Arabia.

With clear skies and a strengthening sea breeze over the Red Sea, the opening day of racing featured high-quality competition as teams from Australia, Brazil, Denmark, France, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, and the USA competed for the title of World Champions.

The standout performance on Day 1 came from the Australian team representing the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia. Skipper Cole Tapper led his team of Jack Frewin, Hamish Vass, Chelsea Williams, and Joel Beashel to an impressive start, achieving six wins in their first six qualifying races. Their strong showing has set a competitive tone for the upcoming rounds as they aim to keep their success going through the knockout stages.

While the Australians had a remarkable start, other teams, including defending World Champion Ange Delerce from France and New Zealander Josh Hyde, also demonstrated their determination to be top contenders heading into Stage 2.

Last night marked the official opening of the event with a ceremony in the Fan Zone at Jeddah Marina.

Tomorrow will see the completion of the qualifying round robin, after which the knockout stages, including quarter-finals, semi-finals, and finals, will commence on Sunday and Monday.
