World Sailing has officially unveiled its new strategy, Prepared for Tomorrow, that will guide the sport from 2025 to 2029.

Created in partnership with athletes, World Sailing Council members, Board members, classes, and other stakeholders, the strategy centers on four key priorities for the sport:

Events and Commercial – Organizing excellent events that expand sailing’s audience and create new revenue streams to support the sport’s development.
Growth – Maximizing impact from investments in international development through digital resources and enhanced collaboration at continental and national federation levels.
Governance – Enacting World Sailing’s governance reforms to position the federation as a leader in sports governance.
Impact – Uniting sustainability, inclusion, and diversity to focus on generating and evaluating the sport’s economic, social, and environmental effects.

These priorities highlight four significant areas where sailing has the potential to flourish and where the sport is already making strides.

Prepared for Tomorrow emphasizes that World Sailing’s mission is to “inspire, empower, and cultivate vibrant sailing communities worldwide” with the goal to: “foster sailing as a sport rooted in integrity, sustainability, and credibility, facilitating global growth through innovation and sound financial decisions to create enduring legacies for future generations.”

During a speech at the Yacht Racing Forum, World Sailing’s Chief Executive Officer David Graham stated, “Like a sailor, the federation needs a chart to steer the correct course. As leaders in our sport, we must determine where to focus our efforts for maximum impact.

“This strategy will offer guidance and direction for our work and provide clarity for our stakeholders—our national federations, our classes, and all participants in sailing.

“By adhering to the priorities outlined in Prepared for Tomorrow, we will ensure World Sailing is equipped to capitalize on upcoming opportunities while being ready to meet challenges as we progress into the middle decades of the 21st century.”
