The 49er, 49erFX, and Nacra 17 classes are excited to announce the 2025 Junior World Championships will happen in Copenhagen, Denmark, hosted by the Royal Danish Yacht Club from July 30 to August 3, 2025.

This event will feature the world’s most promising young sailors competing for four prestigious world titles:

49er Junior Worlds (Open)
49erFX Junior Worlds (Women)
49erFX Junior Worlds (Open)
Nacra 17 Junior Worlds (Mixed)

As the premier event in junior sailing, it will highlight exceptional talent and future stars in one of the globe’s most thrilling sailing venues.

Championship venue and amenities

The race courses will be located 15 NM north of Copenhagen at the picturesque Rungsted Marina, providing an excellent setting for competitive sailing. The Royal Danish Yacht Club features a spacious and inviting clubhouse within the marina, which will serve as the event’s central hub. The marina also includes a three-lane slipway next to the clubhouse and designated waiting areas for boats. Furthermore, Rungsted Marina hosts six restaurants, and a nearby hotel offers convenient lodging for participants and visitors. Short-term rental options are easily accessible through global platforms, ensuring flexible accommodation choices for everyone.

Championship highlights and defending champions

Last year’s Junior Worlds in Galicia, Spain, saw 107 teams from 25 countries deliver unforgettable performances in all classes. In the 49erFX Women’s division, Germany’s Katharina Schwachhofer and Elena Stoltze led an exciting competition, but Italy’s Sofia Giunchiglia and Giulia Schio emerged victorious after a dramatic final-day battle. In the 49er Junior Worlds, Malta’s Richard Schulteis and Yoenn Bertin earned the championship title by navigating challenging offshore winds with skill.

In the Nacra 17 Mixed category, Belgium’s Kwinten and Lieselotte Borghijs secured victory with an impressive performance. The pair recently also won the junior European championship and finished 3rd overall, marking a successful season for the Belgian duo.

Seb Menzies of New Zealand, who helmed for Emirates Team New Zealand in the Youth America’s Cup, also made a remarkable showing at the 2024 49er Junior Worlds, finishing fourth alongside crew member George Lee Rush. Menzies, now entering the 2025 championships with valuable experience from both events, will be one of the standout sailors to watch this year in Copenhagen.

Race management and course details

The 2025 Junior Worlds will be organized across three designated course areas to suit the fleet sizes and ensure a dynamic, fair racing environment. Race management will be conducted by Tomas Dyrbye, a highly skilled race manager, supported by a team of five leaders. The Royal Danish Yacht Club will also enlist a dedicated group of volunteers to perform essential roles both on land and water.
