American Rowdy Triumphs Over Italian J/70 Cup Series

It marks the first time in over a decade of the renowned Italian J/70 Class that a competitor from outside Italy, specifically from Chicago Yacht Club, has clinched victory in the impressive 26-race series held over five regattas during the summer season of 2024!
The event attracted 130 boats in the Open Division alongside 67 boats in the Corinthian Division. In a remarkable performance, Rich Witzel’s ROWDY team (Carlos Robles, Moritz Spitzauer, and Tomas Dietrich) dominated the series, securing victory by an impressive 34 points, finishing with a total of 66 points net!
Taking second place was renowned Italian J/70 team NOTARO TEAM, led by Luca Domenici, with crew members Diego Negri, Michele Mennuti, and Davide Bortoletto. They ended the series with a total of 100 points net. In third place was Alessandro Molla’s VIVA team with 163 points net. The fourth position was taken by Gianfranco Noe’s WHITE HAWK with 191 points net, and the fifth spot was claimed by top female skipper Sofia Giondi’s WANDERLUST.
Corinthian Division
The champions of the Corinthians Division were Noe’s WHITE HAWK. Sofia’s WANDERLUST secured the silver medal, while Massimo Rama’s WHY NotCAIM won the bronze medal.
