In the men’s category, USA’s Cash Berzolla is the 2024 GWA Wingfoil Wave World Champion, having been the top performer this season after his victory in Morocco earlier this month.
Despite a surprising loss in the quarter-finals at Ibiraquera, his earlier achievements guaranteed him the title before the event concluded. France’s Malo Guénolé claimed his second Tour victory with an impressive showing, achieving the highest heat score of the contest at 17.10 points. He faced compatriot Axel Gerard in the final, where Guénolé was dominant, riding wave after wave. In the mini-final, 15-year-old Anderson Gallagher (USA), competing for the first time, finished third, just ahead of Brazilian Gallagher Martins.
In the women’s competition, Spain’s Elena Moreno, who took third place in the event, has already been named the 2024 GWA Wingfoil Wave World Champion. She secured the title with two remarkable wins at earlier tour locations, ensuring she amassed sufficient points before competing in Brazil. Spain’s Nia Suardiaz triumphed in her first wave event of the year in a nail-biting final against Dutch competitor Bowien van der Linden. Suardiaz won narrowly by a mere 0.01 points, with van der Linden finishing in second place.
