27 September – 4 October 2024
The Yugo wind persisted on the Split racecourse, enabling the completion of three more races at the Melges 24 European Championship for the second straight day. With eight races done and two left, the Croatian team Razjaren maintains a commanding lead (today 8-1-1).
Although finishing outside the top five in the first race, Ante Cesic’s crew reaffirmed their superiority by securing two first-place finishes, positioning them well for overall victory.
Razjaren has an 11-point advantage over past World Champion Altea (ITA, 19-3-9), skippered by Andrea Racchelli, who successfully defended against challenges from the two-time Corinthian World Champion Mataran 24 (CRO, 3-8-4), which currently holds third place just three points behind Altea.
Ivo Matic, owner of Mataran 24, shared his enthusiasm for his team’s performance, leading the Corinthian division: “We enjoy strong winds and trained intensely in San Francisco under challenging conditions. This is why we’ve been successful over the last two days. Now, we’re hoping for some Mistral winds tomorrow to conclude the event optimally.”

Mataran 24 has pushed Ivan Kljakovic Gašpic’s Universitas Nova (CRO, 2-13-8) off the provisional podium but sits just one point ahead of Cuyler Morris’ Dark Horse (USA, 1-9-6), which celebrated yet another first-place finish today.
In the Corinthian division, Ákos Csolto’s Chinook, the winner of the 2023 European Sailing Series, holds the second position, with Miles Quinton’s Zhik Race Team in third.
The Melges 24 European Championship will wrap up on Friday with the final two races. PRO Marko Misura has set the first warning signal for noon, with a time limit of 4pm.
The event will conclude with a prize-giving ceremony at JK Split, held in partnership with the International Melges 24 Class Association (IM24CA).
