Competitive racing for performance catamarans will return to the waters of Mallorca on Friday, 27 September, as the Multihull Cup 2024 kicks off.
With only a few days remaining before the start of this sixth edition celebrating multihull sailing, crews are putting the finishing touches on their preparations for racing along Mallorca’s stunning southwest coastline.
Much attention will be directed toward the friendly yet intense rivalry between Adrian Keller’s Irens 78 Allegra and Sir Irvine Laidlaw’s VPLP-custom Highland Fling 18. The two recently faced off at the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup, where the Swiss-flagged Allegra came out on top—something that the team aboard Highland Fling 18 is eager to change.
However, the Banuls Design McConaghy-built Dragon should not be overlooked, as the 60-ft multihull aims to replicate its victory from the 2019 Multihull Cup.
The three-day event will enjoy the warm hospitality of its Port Adriano venue, along with the exceptional amenities of the exclusive marina.
“There will be significant interest in how the competition unfolds on the water,” stated Multihull Cup Event Director Andrea Grimm. “There are points at stake, plus plenty of enjoyment and excitement to be had.”
On land, the Coast by East location in Port Adriano will serve as the centerpiece for activities, with North Sails and Rigging Projects once again providing their ongoing sponsorship support.
Following registration on Thursday, 26 September, racing will commence on Friday and run until Sunday, 29 September, which will also feature the celebratory award ceremony.
