Race Summaries:
Semi Final 1 – Match 8: American Magic (USA) vs Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli (ITA)
The two AC75s settled in the starboard corner of the pre-start area and then broke away 30 seconds before the start. Both were early for the line, with the USA leading down the line. ITA went in first to shore as instructed by their coaches. USA caught ITA on their initial cross, and the two split tacks again. Ultimately, USA on port crossed ITA on starboard and tacked to closely cover ITA. ITA managed to sail through USA’s turbulence and into clear air.
Mark 1: 04min 03secs, ITA led USA by 20sec. On the water, distance was 275 meters on Leg 2. USA aimed for the starboard boundary, returning at 40.5 knots at Gate 2.
Mark 2: 07min 25secs, ITA led USA by 21sec. Distance on the water was 300 meters on Leg 3. Both tried to stay in phase instead of LRPP covering. USA edged into LRPP’s lead by sailing higher, closing the gap to 87 meters. They took opposite gates, with LRPP on the port gate.
Mark 3: 12min 03secs, ITA led USA by 8secs. ITA went into the port corner and extended to a 300-meter lead after USA moved into the starboard corner and boundary. Wind was reported at 11.4 knots, and USA had a minor touch down in a gybe.
Mark 4: 15min 27secs, ITA led USA by 22secs. Distance was 370 meters on Leg 4. ITA extended to a 500-meter lead on Leg 4. USA needed an extra tack to reach the mark.
Mark 5: 19min 36secs, ITA led USA by 51secs. Distance was 700 meters on the water.
Finish: 22min 56secs, ITA led USA by 61secs. ITA advances to the LVC Challenger Final.

Mornings will see light and variable winds. A southerly flow will develop by midday, increasing from 6 to 11 knots during the afternoon racing. Waves will reach 0.8 meters from the East with a 6-second interval. The wind and wave directions will be at a 90° angle, complicating foiling. Skies will be partly sunny and cloudy, with negligible rainfall, and temperatures up to 23°C on land.
Friday, September 20
The weather will worsen, with rain and showers expected throughout the day. Afternoon winds from the East are predicted at around 5 to 10 knots, but these winds may be unstable due to rain. Stay tuned for our next update before race time on Friday morning with the latest model runs.
