Aquila Power Catamarans is excited to unveil two new models—the 42 and 46 Coupe Power Catamarans—during the Miami International Boat Show in February 2025.
Both Coupe models will come equipped with the Aquila Hydro Glide Foil System™, featuring a fixed carbon-fiber foil that was previously only available as an optional add-on for selected models.
“When we embarked on the development of the Coupe series, we were keen on incorporating foils for our owners,” shares Jean Raas, Aquila USA’s Chief Product Officer and CEO. “Our experience with the 36 Sport catamarans taught us invaluable lessons. Fine-tuning the shape of the foils took a lot of trial and error, but the performance improvements we observed—over 35% better fuel efficiency—were astounding. Once we recognized just how much our foils enhance both fuel efficiency and ride comfort, it made perfect sense to standardize them on the Coupes.” The 36 Sport power catamaran is highly regarded as the leading production foiling boat globally.
While foils may be more commonly seen in the racing arena, where they lift the vessel entirely out of the water, they’ve traditionally required significant skill and effort to handle. Power catamarans, with their dual-hull design, allow for a foil to extend between the sponsons, effectively lifting the boat at cruising speeds without the need for sophisticated control systems. Raas comments, “For those who own a monohull and wish to boost their range, the usual suggestion is to add engine power. However, this leads to increased fuel and maintenance costs. Foils provide a far more efficient solution—enhancing fuel economy means you can travel further and faster without needing more horsepower.” Raas also emphasizes that using foils is a more sustainable way to improve range and efficiency.
These foils work together with the engine packages, where each Coupe model features two outboard engines that deliver as much range as triplet or quad outboards on similar vessels. “Choosing to make the foils standard on the Coupes reflects our significant confidence, built over years of research and testing,” Raas adds. “Getting the foils just right is no easy task, even the choice of material is crucial,” he remarks, highlighting the benefits of carbon fiber. “We’ve dedicated considerable time and resources to perfecting this, and now we’re excited for our customers to experience the advantages.”
Following the success of the recently launched 50 Yacht Power Catamaran, the new Coupe series beautifully marries the thrill of an open-air sport boat with the cozy comforts of a yacht. They provide remarkable usable space that is rarely found in boats of this size. Available with both inboard and outboard propulsion options and featuring the standard Aquila Hydro Glide Foil System™, these stylish and dynamic catamarans are perfect for a fun day at the sandbar, a night under the stars, or an adventurous weekend getaway.
Alongside the debut of the Aquila 42 Coupe and 46 Coupe, visitors will also have the chance to explore the 54 Yacht, 50 Yacht, 44 Yacht, 42 Yacht, 47 Molokai, 36 Sport, and the 36 Sport, offering a varied array of choices for boating enthusiasts.
