PHUKET, Thailand – On Monday, January 14th, a catamaran carrying 38 individuals, comprising both tourists and crew members, sank off the scenic coast of Phuket in southern Thailand. Fortunately, authorities confirmed that all passengers were successfully rescued and returned to shore without any injuries.
According to reports, water began to seep into the vessel, leading it to slowly sink about 1.6 nautical miles north of Racha Island. Thankfully, the response was swift.
A well-coordinated rescue operation was promptly initiated by the local rescue center, utilizing patrol boats alongside several nearby tourist speedboats from various companies. Thanks to their efforts, all individuals on board were safely retrieved and escorted back to shore where they could regroup. Remarkably, no injuries were reported during this alarming incident.
The authorities are currently investigating the factors that led to this incident. Phuket officials have also reached out to the Chinese consulate to confirm that all Chinese citizens involved are safe. (TNA)
