Marina Fire Damages Three Yachts in Marseille, France

In a troubling incident at Port de la Lave, located in the 16th arrondissement of Marseilles, France, three yachts sustained significant damage due to a fire. This unfortunate event unfolded on Thursday, January 9th, at around 5:30 PM local time.

The flames initially ignited aboard the 26.9-meter Leopard yacht Naisca IV and then rapidly spread to two other boats: the 22.7-meter Aldabra, manufactured by OCEA Yachts, and another smaller yacht that remains unidentified and measures less than 24 meters. Local reports indicate that as the fire raged on, two of the yachts lost their mooring lines, causing them to drift away and complicating the firefighting response. Fortunately, authorities succeeded in extinguishing the fire by 11:30 PM.

At the peak of their efforts, a total of three boats, 19 fire engines, and 63 firefighters were deployed to tackle the situation at Port de la Lave. Thankfully, the fire was contained to just the three affected yachts. To mitigate pollution, a floating barrier was established, effectively limiting the contaminated area to a radius of 100 meters.

The yacht Naisca IV, part of a collection of 27 Sport models from the renowned Italian shipyard Leopard Yachts, features a sleek design by Paolo Caliari, with the interior beautifully executed by Rodriguez. She offers accommodation for six guests across three well-appointed cabins, as well as additional quarters for two crew members.

Currently, the exact cause of the fire is under investigation, but it’s reassuring to note that no casualties have been reported.
