Anticipation is mounting for the inaugural Foiling Week Pensacola 2025, the leading international foiling regatta and World Sailing Special Event, occurring in less than three months in Florida’s Panhandle (February 24 – March 2).
Foiling Week is the only global event focused on the incredible foiling boats and boards, along with their athletes, designers, and manufacturers.
The racing roster is expanding swiftly with the addition of six of the most thrilling and rapidly evolving water sport classes:
Kite Foil – which made its Olympic debut at Paris 2024 this summer
Open Wing Foil
SUP Foil
Surf (prone) Foil
Pump Foil
Wake Board Foil
The inclusion of these classes will raise the total to 19 across the week-long event, making Foiling Week Pensacola 2025 one of the most diverse foiling events globally.
SUP, Surf, Pump, and Wake will feature in ‘FlexFoil’, a two-day multidiscipline competition that amalgamates various board sports into a major event on Pensacola Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. Each competition day will offer three options based on weather and sea conditions: Downwind, Pump/Wake (competition and exhibition), and Surf Foil.
There are only three weeks left for athletes to take advantage of the significant early bird entry discount of 25% and secure their position at the start line. Early registration ends on December 31 at midnight.
This upcoming event promises exhilarating races, outstanding foiling conditions, innovative technology displays, and a vibrant congregation in its new U.S. location. Terry Hutchinson, Skipper and President of Sailing Operations for Pensacola-based American Magic, expressed his excitement about hosting the event, stating, “Foiling Week 2025 is set for late February/early March in Pensacola, and we are eagerly anticipating showcasing this fantastic event to Pensacola Bay and sharing what we’ve learned here over the past six years. We are confident that Pensacola will provide exceptional conditions and a wonderful week for foiling sailors, and we look forward to welcoming everyone to experience the thrills we’ve enjoyed during our time here.”
Sailing classes in the lineup include the Moth, WASZP, Birdyfish, A-Class Catamaran, Nacra 15 FCS, X-15, iQFOil, and an ‘open class’ division featuring the Skeeta, F101, Flying Phantom, iFly, Whisper, and UFOs. Races will be held in Pensacola Bay and the Gulf of Mexico – in front of the Pensacola Beach Hilton Hotel.
Billy Bosch, President of Good Breeze Kiteboarding on their role remarked, “The Foil Surf Race League presents a high-energy foil surfing endurance race along the sandbars of the Pensacola Coast. This combination of surf foiling, pumping, strategy, and physical endurance is thrilling for both competitors and observers!”
The Foil Surf Race League is slated for Saturday, March 1, and Sunday, March 2, with a demo day on Friday, February 28, to allow competitors and sponsors to test their equipment.
Gwen Le Tutour, Pump Foil Instructor, added, “Pump foiling is among the fastest-growing foil sports in North America, and the bay and marinas around Pensacola are vast playgrounds for all foiling disciplines.”
Mike Mendez from Emerald Coast Foilers stated, “Downwind foiling reveals the hidden waterpark that has always been nearby, opening the Gulf and Pensacola’s extensive bays to exhilarating downwind experiences. Downwinding in the foiling realm is analogous to backcountry skiing in the skiing world. It combines foil surfing, mental and physical endurance, strategy, and oceanic knowledge. It’s the apex of foiling and provides an unmatched sense of adventure in the open ocean, well beyond traditional surf zones.”
Over the weekend, the Foiling Week Race Village at Maritime Park will allow attendees to watch close races, explore an expo showcasing the latest high-tech nautical gear and clothing, and enjoy live entertainment. Sustainability, inclusivity, clinics, youth and women’s coaching, discussions on foiling evolution, and technical workshops will also be key features of the program.
Foiling Week Pensacola will mark the American debut of this foiling extravaganza, receiving support from: City of Pensacola – Florida, Escambia County, Pensacola Yacht Club, Pensacola Beach Yacht Club, and Sail Pensacola.
